After graduating from my university, I wanted to work with multinational companies. Ernst & Young has many such clients. Also, the representatives of Ernst & Young who I talked to at the career day events at my university were friendly and personable at first go. This was how I got my first job, where I've been ever since. I like working together with people of different backgrounds, within the company as well as with clients. That’s why I seized the opportunity to relocate for a while from my homeland, Holland, to Switzerland.
Such a stay abroad is a very valuable experience and everyone who has such an opportunity should take advantage of it. You don’t just progress in your career, you also learn a lot about other cultures. I learn something new every day, which is really enjoyable. I can in turn pass on this expanded knowledge in the area of Internal Audit and Financial Services to my colleagues in Holland. But technical know-how isn’t the only essential thing for my daily work. Good communication skills are also very important, in order to carry conviction vis-à-vis the clients and within the company. My projects can last anywhere between one week and six months and often have stringent deadlines. That requires flexibility and the capacity to perform well even when under pressure.
